The project
A hospital for tomorrow's healthcare
The current hospital building in Sursee dates from 1976. Medicine, technology, digitalisation and outpatient treatment now require different spaces and processes.
The planned new building offers long-term development options, flexible uses and attractive workplaces. Schwyzermatt is easy to reach and provides modern infrastructure for patients, staff and visitors.
The location
Schwyzermatt becomes a healthcare location
The approximately 40,000 m² planning area lies north of today's built-up area of Sursee, close to the A2 motorway and the cantonal road. Regional transport planning will be coordinated so the hospital is accessible by bus, bicycle and car.

No approval, no new hospital.
The Schwyzermatt site has not yet been rezoned. Before the building project can move forward, Schenkon's electorate will decide on two key planning instruments.

A decision on the binding rules for buildings, open spaces, access and the development of the site.

Both decisions are required. The cantonal government will then make the final decision on rezoning and the development plan.

Architecture competition launched
A two-stage process creates the basis for the new hospital.

38 submissions from residents and local parties are reviewed.
Public display
The revised planning instruments will be displayed to the public.
Municipal assembly: rezoning
Eligible voters in Schenkon decide on the rezoning of the site.
Ballot vote: development plan
The population decides on the binding development plan.
Preliminary and detailed design
The hospital project will be developed further once rezoning is secured.
Approval, construction and opening
Submission in 2029, planned construction from 2030 and opening in 2034.
